The Toronto District School Board is considering providing financial incentives to underprivileged students for academic success. It is believed these incentives will encourage students to succeed academically and help prevent financial issues from affecting their school lives. The program, if implemented, would attempt to avoid singling students out by only being implemented at certain schools. Schools would be chosen based on average incomes in the area. This idea is not just to give away money, but as Lloyd McKell suggests, “It’s one of the possibilities the board’s new anti-poverty task force will examine (CBC). Financial incentives for high marks in schools will not work as intended but rather discourage students who are ineligible; it will be ineffective for students whose reasons for failing school is not financial and risks teaching some students to only be motivated only by money.

What are the different ways that the Party obtains and maintains power In Oceania?

The Party maintains its power primarily through language, technology, fear, and isolation. In my opinion language are the most potent, because the intellectual purpose of Newspeak is to make Ingsoc-approved thoughts the only expressible thoughts. As constructed, Newspeak's vocabulary communicates the exact expression of sense and meaning that a member of the Party could wish to express, such as uncold instead of warm and ungood instead of bad, that to limit free thought and free speech.
